In reading the Eclogues ("selections"), more usefully also known as the Bucolica, I've finally read all of Virgil's three extant works. The Eclogues was apparently the earliest of the three, and though it may seem a trifle compared to the Aeneid, it all but established the genre of pastoral poetry and has had an enormous influence on that genre /5.
